Please help us answer the call.
It could be a life saver.
It could be a life changer.
It could be your neighbor.
It could be a friend.
It could be your family.
When they call out for help, who will be there to listen?
For 40 years, Headquarters Counseling Center has answered the call.
Twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year for four decades and counting—an achievement shared by very few community-based crisis hotlines in the country—our valiant volunteer and paid staff have stood by the phones, awaiting the calls everyone dreads, ready to offer hope, a kind ear, a point of solace in somebody’s chaotic world.
We intend to keep going for another 40 years, and more, but it’s never been more important that you help us answer these calls by answering this call.
The upcoming year promises to be one of lasting importance for this stalwart community resource. Headquarters staff and its board of directors are currently seeking partnerships with other local organizations equally dedicated to addressing the growing strains being placed on mental-health services; it is hoped that in 2010 we can lay the foundation for a long-term plan that will allow us to realize our dreams, including expanded space and training for our staff and others, walk-in assistance for those facing crises, a brief therapy service, greater public visibility, enhanced ability to answer suicide prevention calls from across Kansas, and, of course, the continued and unwavering support from our generous friends and corporate partners.
At a time of uncertain funding from many of our traditional sources, including the United Way of Douglas County, and strains that have been placed on everyone’s charitable resources, it’s critical that this call for help be answered.
For 40 years, Headquarters Counseling Center has answered the calls. On our suicide prevention hotline. In our support groups. On Phone A Friend for children who are lonely and often scared. And, because suicide is the second-leading cause of death for Kansans aged 15-24, education and prevention programs directed toward junior-high and high-school students.
Answering the call is what we do.
